Since its inception in the market, Reliance Jio has been serving the low income segments of India by offering super cheap phones and low cost cell plans. We recently saw a report suggesting that Jio is aiming to launch an affordable laptop and cheap smartphone with 5G connectivity in the second half of 2021. Now, according to a new report, Reliance has partnered with the Chinese smartphone brand. Itel to bring affordable ultra-smartphones to India.
The report from 91Mobiles which states that Reliance and Itel sign an exclusive partnership launch a smart phone at a very affordable price in India. The deal is expected to be finalized between the companies in May. And according to industry sources, the affordable smartphone will launch sometime during the same month.
Now Itel, if you didn’t know, is a China-based smartphone maker operating since 2014. The company makes super affordable smartphones for the Indian market. However, in the partnership, Itel will manufacture the device, while Jio will offer a low-cost data plan exclusive to the Itel-Jio smartphone. Other than this, unfortunately, there is no other information on the name, specifications or design of the next smartphone.
However, according to a recent banner (image below) shared on Itel’s official website, we can see the silhouette of the next device. The file name on the company website reveals the name of the device. It could be the Itel A23 Pro, which is an entry-level Android Go smartphone, in the company’s vein. You can check its specifications and price. right here. Most likely it will come to less than Rs. 3,000 in India.
So we can expect this smartphone to suit low-income consumers looking to upgrade from a feature phone to a smartphone. As a result, the device could become popular with consumers living in rural areas of India.
