Although Clubhouse recently faced its first alleged data breach, there is no denying that the audio-based social media platform has recently gained immense popularity. Since then, we have seen numerous major companies such as Facebook, Instagram, Discord, LinkedIn, and Telegram work on similar functions for their platforms. Now, Reddit has jumped on the bandwagon with the launch of its Clubhouse clone called Reddit Talk.
The community-based social platform recently Announced Reddit Talk via a blog post on Reddit. Opened a waiting list for users to sign up to test the feature. It is currently in the initial testing phase and will be released to the masses in the coming days.
Based on images shared by the company, Reddit Talk doesn’t look much different than the Clubhouse UI. You have the speakers or creators in the room sitting in the top section with their Reddit avatars. While listeners sit in the lower section of the user interface.
So once a community moderator starts a live Reddit Talk by creating a live audio room, listeners can join in for live audio conversations. During Reddit Talk sessions, moderators / hosts have full control over listeners. They can invite new guests, mute existing listeners, or remove a speaker during a chat. Additionally, hosts also have the authority to remove unwanted listeners and prevent them from rejoining the session.
Listeners, on the other hand, also have many options to participate in live chat sessions. For starters, any Redditor can join a chat room and listen to speakers and react with emojis. They also have the option to raise your hand for the host to invite them to speak.
Now, during the initial testing phase, only community moderators will be able to initiate a Reddit Talk session with their community members. They can also invite trusted speakers to co-host a chat session with them. However, once a host starts a live Reddit Talk, any Redditor on iOS and Android can join the session.
So after the initial trial period, Reddit says it will work with the moderators to allow other trusted community members to start Reddit Talk sessions in the coming days.
As for now, you can sign up to join the waiting list to test the function. Once it’s available to all Redditors, the developers will notify the waitlist members.
