Popular brands with sarcastic responses on their competitors’ social media profiles are not unusual, but the latest one involving Telegram, WhatsApp and Signal seems to have gone too far. In a tweet earlier this week, Telegram took to Twitter to share a sarcastic meme with WhatsApp and Facebook.

Social media battle between WhatsApp, Signal and Telegram

Telegram posted a meme on Twitter showing the evolution of the classic Windows Recycle Bin icon. Towards the end, he added one for2022 with WhatsApp and Facebook in the Recycle Bin. Everyone instantly had a damn moment memeespecially since WhatsApp is trying to rebuild its image after a controversial privacy policy update. You can take a look at the meme in question below:

Now this spells war for social media administrators. Just hours later, the Facebook-owned company responded with a meme showing how Telegram is not end-to-end encrypted by default. In case you are not aware, Telegram does not use end-to-end encryption for regular chats and instead uses client-server encryption. You will have to use this nifty Telegram trick called “secret chats” to get end-to-end encryption.

Telegram then responded by saying that its ‘users know how things work’ and how they have opened their apps to test it.

In a separate instance, WhatsApp made another attempt to clarify the update of its privacy policy to users. He posted a tweet saying that he cannot see your personal messages and that he will not delete your account on May 15 if you do not accept the privacy policy. That is because WhatsApp plans to gradually limit the functions for users who do not accept the privacy policy.

To this, Signal cited the tweet and encouraged followers to switch to privacy rather than having to settle. Take a look at that tweet below:

While it is certainly entertaining to watch platforms creatively take on their competitors, it is a reminder to uninitiated users who may not be aware of the dangers of using the application they are using.
